The OAS Peace Fund and the Arts

The OAS was established to strengthen the peace and security, prevent conflicts, and resolve disputes among its member states. An essential tool for this is the peace fund. The OAS adjacency zone office, in coordination with Melchor de Mencos and Benque Viejo mayors, is executing a culture of peace program. This consists of music and painting training programs for Belizean and Guatemalan students resident in the area. Courses commenced on June 13th, 2011 and will run for 6 months.

It is good to see that Benque Viejo Town has many upcoming musicians and artists.

The “INTERNATIONAL MOTOCROSS” show held on Sunday July 17, 2011 at the Free Zone area near the Western Border was a success. It was an adrenaline filled day with enough fun and excitement. Riders from Belize, Guatemala, and Colombia faced off in three categories: beginners (12 minutes), experts (15 minutes), and super experts (20 minutes). The winners would emerge after an average of two races. Belize had an impresive performance, sweeping with all trophies in the Beginner's race and both second place trophies in the Expert's and Super Expert's races.
